Onco B3 is the result of a breakthrough in cancer diagnostics made by a team of scientists in India.
They discovered that very small embryonic-like pluripotent stem cells (VSELs), residing in multiple tissues, undergo epigenetic changes and get transformed into Cancer Stem Cell (CSCs). The CSCs get mobilised into circulation in peripheral blood at a very early stage of cancer development which means that Onco B3 can detect cancer earlier than any other known technology.
Once these cells are enriched so that the RNA can be extracted and processed using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology, information about gene expressions and cancer pathways can be obtained.
Normally this information would have only ever been known by processing tissue samples. Now this information can be obtained from processing a blood sample. And not just for a single organ of interest but for all the organs in the body which have been impacted by cancer, from a single blood sample.
Results are expressed in the form of a risk assessment and an indication for cancer risk based on gene-disease and organ-gene associations provided in standard databases.
